Objectives: Computerized manufacturing of dental restorations by CAD/CAM technology is widely acknowledged due to its time and cost-efficiency. Additionally, high esthetic outcome is important for patients’ satisfaction. For long-term performance, the mechanical properties should be in the range of established materials.

The aim of this work is to compare the mechanical properties of one recent developed CAD/CAM polymer material to five established polymer materials.

Material and Methods: Six different CAD/CAM materials were used (Grandio bloc (GB), VOCO; Lava Ultimate (UL), 3M ESPE; Cerasmart (CE), GC Europe; Enamic (EN), Vita Zahnfabrik; Ambarino high class (AM), Creamed; Brilliant Crios (BC), Coltene).

Mechanical properties were determined using a universal testing machine according to ISO 6872 as follows:

• Flexural strength; the samples were tested in dry condition (n=5) and wet condition after storing in distilled water for 24 h at 37°C(n=5)

• Flexural modulus; the samples were tested in dry condition (n=5) and wet condition (n=5). Mean values were statistically evaluated on a p=0.05 level (ANOVA,Scheffe post hoc test).

Results: The detailed results are shown in Table 1.

For flexural strength, the results were in range of 141.88 ± 13.70 MPa to 297.95 MPa ± 6.79 MPa in dry condition and 117.30 ± 40.40 MPa to 287.18 ± 4.41 MPa in wet conditions, respectively. GB showed significantly the highest strength.

For flexural modulus, the results were in range of 9.88 ± 1.58 MPa to 25.85 ± 2.43 MPa in dry condition and 6.70 ± 1.54 MPa to 24.80 ± 4.15 MPa in wet conditions, respectively. EN showed significantly the highest modulus.

Conclusion: The newly developed CAD/CAM polymer material (GB) showed preferable results and seems to be a promising material for definitive restorations. These in vitro results are comparable to established polymers on the market.
